In early July, The Trust and Babson College Executive Education's, Basic Training -- It's My Business kicked off with 18 former players soaked up the knowledge imparted to them by three expert faculty members in the world of finance and entrepreneurial education. The group was comprised of adept presenters, problem solvers, creative minds and strong leaders. That larger group was then broken up into smaller groups where they began plugging away on their case assignments. There were great insights discussed like “All money isn’t green” and a new twist on an old classic, “If it’s not broken, then FIX it”. During the course of the 2½ days, new businesses were pitched, holes were poked in plans and fear abounded over what the next line of probing questions would be.
There is no doubt that this group learned a great deal about the process of planning a business, but there was something else going on at Babson. It was the fellowship and encouragement that comes from a team environment. Sure, there was more than a healthy dose of competition amongst the small groups but it was clear to see how much these men cared for one another and were inspired by shared struggles and successes. Inspiration to start their businesses, finish undergraduate degree requirements and begin graduate pursuits.
